Keep Rivers Wild for Wildlife

Adopt a Stream

The Nebraska Wildlife Federation's state-wide Adopt A Stream program is designed to help school, youth, and community groups and individuals adopt a portion of a local stream, assess and monitor the aquatic health of their stream, and develop conservation projects that restore and improve fish and wildlife habitat.  The goal is simple: to help Nebraskans take an active role in monitoring, conserving and appreciating streams in their area.

In partnership with Doane College in Crete and the 5-county Public Health Solutions, and thanks to funding from the Environmental Protection Agency, we now have an online database where stream and lake volunteer monitoring data can be stored and viewed. We are also developing a series of online training videos that will give you the basics of how to test for pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, and other key indicators of water quality.

Check back to our site over the next few months as we complete the series of videos, add information, and build out our Adopt a Stream site. You can also sign up for our free Adopt a Stream email newsletter, which will have information on future workshops, information, and other opportunities. For more information, visit our Adopt A Stream home page here.
