How Did Your Senator Vote?

While some important issues come to a clear up-or-down in the Legislature, in many cases key bills never come to a vote because they are held in committee. At times we must use other indicators, like which Senators signed on to particularly bad -- or good -- Legislation.

River Flows: We opposed LB 438, introduced in 2009, that would have severely weakened Nebraska's instream flow law. The following 18 Senators co-sponsored the bill:

Fischer (primary sponsor), Carlson, Christensen, Coash, Dierks, Flood, Giese, Hadley, Hansen, Lautenbaugh, McCoy, Pankonin, Rogert, Schilz, Stuthman, Sullivan, Utter, Wightman.

Held in Natural Resources Committee

River Flows: We supported LB 1025, which would have streamlined the process used to acquire an in-stream flow water right.

Senator Avery sponsored the bill.

The following Senators on the Natural Resources committee voted to kill the bill: Carlson, Cook, Dubas, Fischer, Haar, Langemeier, McCoy, Schilz.

Killed by Natural Resources Committee

Niobrara Council: We opposed LB 666, introduced in 2009, which would have stripped the Niobrara Council of most of its authority. The following Senators co-sponsored the bill:

Langemeier (primary sponsor), Carlson, Christensen, Dierks, Giese, Hadley, Hansen, Lautenbaugh, McCoy, Pankonin, Price, Rogert, Schilz, Stuthman, Utter, Wightman.

Held in Natural Resources Committee

Deer Management: We opposed the original LB 836, which would have allowed landowners to shoot deer without regard to hunting seasons and would have put in place a bounty on deer through a $25 per head. The bill's sponsors were:

Lautenbaugh (primary sponsor), Janssen.

Substantially amended in committee, amended bill was enacted
